Technical Operations Manager (TOM)

The position
DMC in Sports is expanding our footprint in Scandinavia. In addition to our continued growth in Sweden, we have also secured a multi-year deal with Norwegian commercial broadcaster TV2 for remote production of 600 + games per year in a wide range of sports, including football, ice hockey, handball, volleyball, floorball, and basketball.
 
For the Broadcast-Center in Stockholm, we are looking to add Technical Operations Manager’s (TOM), predominantly to manage our broadcast center and our new OB-trucks, built for the Scandinavian market. Our focus is to create high-end broadcast services in an innovative, modern, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective way by using centralized workflows. This will be combined with traditional on-site production for larger events, using traditional OB-trucks.
 
You will be responsible for the technical and operational delivery of broadcast productions, including team management, equipment maintenance and technical support while also liaising directly with clients. You will also oversee many project management activities, including planning and reporting.
 
You have experience working in an engineering capacity for on-site events and/or MCR on remote productions, with the ability to train and manage members of the team. You are good at building long-lasting relationships with customers and important partners.

You will be an important part of the DMC team and report directly to the Head of Production.
As part of your role there will be opportunities for traveling across Europe for different events.
 
Responsibilities

  • You will manage other engineers in the context of sports and event production
  • You will manage and supervise our OB-trucks before and during events
  • You will work with the DMC production team on identifying and quantifying opportunities for improving production quality and efficiency
  • You will contribute on larger productions, analyzing, and resolving technical issues
  • You will be a resource for support and production requests
  • Support deployments of new services, applications, architectures and systems with installation, configuration, integration, evaluation, testing,  documentation, and training
  • Troubleshoot a variety of broadcast equipment including analog/digital receivers, encoders, decoders, signal processors, video/audio/IP-         routers, patch panels, converters, video servers, switchers, multiplexers, modulators, power amplifiers, edit bays and network attached storage on fiber/ethernet
  • Design workflow/CAD wiring diagrams covering studio design and architecture

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Live broadcast engineering
  • Understand baseband video signals, routing, encoding, and decoding
  •  Understand at least on a basic level IP-based networking, subnetting and routing
  • Experience with the movement of uncompressed and compressed video through routed IP-based networks, traditional video fiber, and terrestrial satellite
  • Understand at least on a basic level audio routing, crew communications in a live sports environment, and sound play out optimization in indoor/outdoor venues
  • Experience with broadcast troubleshooting tools such as Oscilloscope, Waveform monitor, sync and reference generators, and cable testers
  • Fluent in English

  • Experienced with leading a Broadcast Engineering team
  • Experienced with sporting events and live production
